On 24th April 2018, at Plant 13 Annexe in Godrej Properties, I had gone for a Godrej Secure Spaces Fire Safety conclave. This conclave was at the wake of the recent fire at Kamala Mills. I have to say that it was an eye opener in many ways. I learned so many things and definitely was better educated by the panelists present at the conclave. There were two panels. The first that consisted of a retired army major general Mr.Pavri (Mumbaikar), deputy chief fire officer, Mr. S.B. Kharbade and two other gentlemen. Both of the panel discussions were anchored by famous RJ Rishi K.
The second panel consisted of Mr.Kanan, Mr. Hafeez Contractor, Mr. Anubhav Gupta and Mr.Malvi along with another gentleman.
The conclave opened with Indian National Congress party spokesperson Mr. Sanjay Jha who very briefly educated and enlightened the audience about Fire safety. In fact, Mr. Jha pointed out the significance of fire in our culture and tradition. He then went towards how fire is essential for our survival but when out of control it can harm us. Mr. Jha stressed on public and private participation in bringing out tangible fire safety solutions.
Later on, during the first panel discussion Mr.Pavri stressed on how people should get demanding towards the law makers for implementing fire safety norms. During the second panel discussion, Mr.Hafeez Contractor pointed out the flaws in the Maharashtra Fire Safety and Life Prevention Act 2006 . Mr.Anubhav Gupta answered my question about how people can help in making a document talk to another one, a metaphor used by him to express concern over lack of communication. Mr.Malvi, bureaucrat from Thane’s municipal body was batting for the government.
However, in the end everyone agreed to bring out more stringent solutions and highlighted that Godrej Secure Spaces were brainstorming on this issue that concerns Mumbai.
